Who wouldn’t want to boost their brainpower? With today’s high level of stress and information overload, our minds are under more demand than ever. Some health imbalances known to potentially pose negative impact on brainpower are: sleep apnea, chronic stress and thyroid conditions (just to name a few). It is a vicious cycle because often times it is stress itself that leads us to these unhealthy imbalances in the first place.
The good news is that everyone can work to improve their brainpower with just a few simple food and lifestyle changes. For starters, begin to consume in (wild amounts!) a variety of foods super-rich in antioxidants, essential fatty acids as well as energy giving B vitamins. Foods high on my list would include kale, salmon, blueberries, brussels sprouts, apples, olive oil, coconut milk and bananas. To boost your brainpower with lifestyle, don’t forget that daily aerobic movement helps you to lose unwanted pounds while increasing the flow of blood, nutrients and oxygen to your body- an instantly natural brain boost!
One spice you can add into your daily intake is turmeric. Turmeric has been widely studied not only in holistic nutrition, but also western medicine. It has been used as a medicine for centuries and been proven to balance blood sugar, boost immune function and most recently it is being studied to see if it can slow or prevent Alzheimer’s.
It is important to remember that nothing happens over night. Think of your overall wellness as a ‘Health Bank’, with each action and food choice adding up over time. If you have accumulated a lot of unhealthy actions and currently have a ‘negative’ balance, be patient as you begin to shift your behavior patterns. Over time, your ‘Health Bank’ account will be thriving, and you will begin to move into the positive benefits of balanced wellness.
